Miren vs Coolify

Coolify made self-hosting approachable: a polished panel, hundreds of one-click services, and a large community. It can manage applications across several servers, separate builds onto dedicated machines, and connect AI clients through MCP. Multi-server applications still need an external load balancer, registry, and shared-state services, so scaling out involves infrastructure work beyond the panel.

Miren shares that open-source, own-your-infrastructure philosophy, but takes a scheduler-first path. Push your code — no Dockerfile — and Miren builds it, runs it, and scales it with traffic. Add distributed runners and Miren places stateless workloads across them over an encrypted network, while Miren Cloud provides one place for team access and cluster discovery.

What Coolify does well

Coolify has built something genuinely impressive for the self-hosted space. The UI is polished and approachable, with over 280 one-click services, automatic SSL, monitoring, backups, and role-based team access. It can manage multiple deployment and build servers, offers OAuth plus named SSO integrations for self-hosted instances, and exposes an MCP server so AI clients can inspect and operate team resources with scoped tokens. With more than 61,000 GitHub stars, it also has one of the largest communities in this category.

Where Coolify falls short

Coolify can deploy a stateless application to multiple standalone servers, but it does not turn them into a self-contained cluster. You still configure the external load balancer, registry, shared state, and monitoring, and the current multi-server path excludes Docker Compose applications and applications with persistent storage. Backups also need an external destination. The platform is feature-rich, which can mean more to learn and operate when you self-host the control plane.

How Miren is different

Coolify and Miren share the goal of making deployment accessible without cloud vendor lock-in. Coolify manages standalone servers and can deploy the same stateless application to several of them when you provide the surrounding load-balancing and shared-state infrastructure. Miren's distributed runners instead join one cluster: the scheduler spreads stateless workloads across nodes over a built-in WireGuard network and distributes images from its own registry. Miren also autoscales applications by default, while Coolify leaves instance counts and server capacity to the operator. Miren Disks support local backup and restore today, with remote cloud backup still on the roadmap.
